With over four generations of golfers in my family, arriving in Ceduna I considered it would be a mistake not to play the World Longest Golf Course, Nullarbor Links.

The 18-hole par 72 golf course spans 1,365 kilometres with one hole in each participating town or roadhouse along the Eyre Highway, from Ceduna in South Australia to Kalgoorlie in Western Australia.

Each hole had its unique character from the rugged outback-style natural terrain fairway, well fairway is not the finest description for many of the holes. It could be said the objective of playing this course is not principally how many shot it takes but how many balls you lose along the way. Staying on the fairway promises you can’t always find your ball easily. However, we did manage to complete the 18 holes plus three balls.

We also played one of the holes with a young French professional golfer on his way to a new job on the Gold Coast at I think the new Top Golf facility. He of course was playing the course west to east opposite to us. Our new German backpacker friends managed to play a couple of holes with us as well.
