With over 260,000 tourists flocking to Katherine gorge, the place operates 264 days a year, we got the sense December is not one of their most profitable months.

We camped at the Katherine Gorge Caravan park with a handful of Aussie and overseas tourists. The best advantage of being here at this time is we had Jamie, our personal local guided tour guide. With his local knowledge and over 20 years of tour guiding experience Jamie provided superb account of the natural, cultural and spiritual history of this fascinating place. As we were his only customers we got a unique connection with this place.

At sunset we walked to the lookout at the top of the first gorge and witnessed a monsoonal storm passing through the area just to the north.
