Great Ocean Road (25 April – 7 May 2017)

Joanne joined the rest of the Great Ocean Road team at Gladstone Park Shopping Centre as there was no way Chris was taking the rig anywhere near Tullamarine Airport. Exiting Melbourne, we spent our first night as a foursome in Lorne. Weather was freezing so thank goodness for the additional fitout of diesel heater in Melbourne a few days earlier.

As it was sleeping arrangements Chris’ mum and Dad (Ma and Pa) were tucked up inside, Chris and Joanne braving the element outside in the stretcher swags. The next day Lorne to Cape Otway Lighthouse for lunch then onto Port Campbell. The following day was spent exploring the spectacular coast. A special treat for Ma and Pa was a helicopter ride over the twelve apostles and along the coast.

Departing the coast we moved onto Lake Hindmarsh and gave the newly recruited Caravaners their first experience of free camping, resulting in a great sunset as Chris cycled four mile beach. Next morning a spectacular sunrise and pelican encounter that Chris captured with drone footage. Then it was a long haul to the Barossa Valley to meet up with our eldest son Nathan.

On the way into Adelaide to drop Ma and Pa with relatives we visited the Grange Golf Club and also a street nearby we think was named in honer of our family.
